Job Description

Overview

“Upon Award” – Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Parts Expediter procures, receives, picks-up, stores, inventories and distributes materials required for the maintenance of equipment; they are capable of moving and loading or unloading equipment, materials, and products; operating or tending equipment used to transfer material; driving forklifts and related material-handling machinery and equipment. The period of performance for this position is not to exceed more than one year, may extend to fulfil mission requirements.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates and expedites the flow of materials, parts, components and assemblies within or between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules or department supervisors’ priorities.

Operates within Global Combat Support System – Army (GCSS-A) as required in order to perform assigned duties.

Performs day-to-day routine tasks, in accordance with established guidelines, and receives specific guidance from a supervisor or other official for handling of unusual non-routine problems.

Verifies the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records.

Examines materials to verify if material that was delivered was the type specified and checks for damaged goods.

Determines the amount of material needed for specific jobs, applying knowledge of logistics support requirements and processes.

Ensures that materials are appropriately identified for routing to departments within the establishment and keeps records of goods received.

Moves or transports materials using material handling equipment (i.e. hand truck or industrial truck).

Uses computerized systems to compile reports of quantity and type of material on hand.

Performs other duties that may be assigned to meet company and departmental goals and objectives.

Able to react to change productively and handle essential tasks as assigned.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

Personal computer, printer, calculator, fax machine, copy machine and other general office equipment.

Steel toe shoes are required. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to face mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.

A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week).

Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Work requires standing, climbing, bending, and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions.

Employee stands for long periods.

Frequently lifts equipment weighing 25 pounds. Occasionally assists lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Working knowledge of standardized maintenance regulations; specifically, DA Pam 750-8, Functional User’s Manual for The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS).
  • Specific contractual requirements regarding education and experience prevail where applicable.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, copy machine and printer.
  • Valid state driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

Skills and Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of GCSS-Army is required.
  • Must have working knowledge of basic office procedures, purchasing policies and procedures, and basic software worksheet technologies.
  • Knowledge of local import/export and customs procedures will be an advantage.
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess basic arithmetic, typing/keyboarding, and customer service skills.
  • Capable of completing day-to-day routine tasks, in accordance with established guidelines, and receives specific guidance from a supervisor or other official for handling of unusual non-routine problems.
  • Ability to work with the team lead to move parts to the areas of repair.
  • Determines the amount of material needed for specific jobs, applying knowledge of logistics support requirements and processes.
  • Work with the local purchase section to ensure there is a valid order and an expected date of delivery.
  • Verify materials delivered are the parts specified and checks for damaged goods.
